Designing a research summarization interface for SickKids' Kassner Labs, streamlining scientific literature review and presentation.
In this project I worked with 5 other engineering students to design a web user interface for research summarizing purposes of Dr. Kassner at Kassner Labs, SickKids. Over 3 months, our team identified key objectives of the project, generated over 60 unique web interfaces, created 3 in-depth alternative designs, and ultimately presented our final design, ASAP Research, fulfilling the needs of Dr. Kassner.
Since our design focused on the front-end aspect of the research summarizer, our goal was to create a usable, responsive, and perceivable web interface. Our design prioritized the following features as requested from the client; summarizing PDFs, summarizing articles from databases using keywords, authors, URL, or DOI, presenting key figures and tables, generating PowerPoint presentations, and displaying user search history. Due to our efforts, Dr. Kassner was very content with the web interface we provided. As last heard from Dr. Kassner, the back-end software of the interface is currently being worked on by a computer science co-op student.
Fast Papers interface focused on quick access to research summaries.
Our selected design combines intuitive navigation with comprehensive research tools.
PSPro emphasized presentation generation capabilities.
